A blank page
“The truth is no matter what, you still have to wake up the next morning and endure the tyranny of the blank page” so said Jericho Brown. He was talking about writing, of course, but it could just as easily apply to moving from the security and familiarity of a long career into a brave new world where certainties are harder to find.
Universal truths still remain just that, but your place in the world has changed, for good or ill. Time to rely on some of those scarce certainties. Music. That’s it. Music is the answer.
It’s part of all of us, deep down in the depths of our very being. I have seen, and felt, its effects so many times. It is a universal language - perhaps the only one - and can heal the troubled soul and inspire great deeds in equal measure.
